The m4 Award, the pre-seed funding program of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, State Development and Energy, enters its fifth round.
The m4 Award supports academic start-up teams in transferring excellent research into innovative products and technologies and helps to validate the projects and make them ready for spin-off. Pre-seed funding is intended to enable the project to obtain follow-up financing. Project funding can be applied for for up to 2 years (max. 500,000 Euros). In addition, all awarded projects receive intense support on the way to setting up a company by BioM and other experts.
Who can apply?
You can apply for the m4 Award if you are doing application-oriented research that addresses the challenges of tomorrow's medicine with potential for a future spin-off.
Applications may be submitted by research teams working in universities, university hospitals and non-university public research institutions in Bavaria. The proposed project should be defined by topic, time and budget and may not have started yet.
Possible topics are:
- innovative drug development projects (e.g. immunotherapies, vaccines, gene and cell therapies, anti-infectives, therapeutics for the treatment of age-related diseases and for the prologation of a healthy life span), ideally with a novel mechanism of action
- next generation platforms for diagnosis, prognosis and prevention
- innovative platform technologies for drug discovery and development
- microbiome-based products and technologies
- competitive biomedical approaches in the field of Digital Health / Big Data / Artificial Intelligence

To improve your application with regard to your planned spin-off project, BioM also offers so-called m4 Award eLabs. During each of these 2-day workshops you will receive individual coaching on your business idea.
